Welcome to Science Steps. By booking or attending any session, you agree to the following terms and conditions. These terms outline how our tutoring, mentoring, and career services are provided to ensure clarity, safety, and professionalism for both clients and tutor.

1. Services Provided
Science Steps offers educational and career development services, including:
- Tutoring in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology
- Mentoring and study skills development
- Career and university guidance, such as personal statements, CV support, and interview preparation
Sessions may take place online or in person, depending on availability, learner needs, and location (e.g., Ely, Littleport, and surrounding areas).

2. Booking and Payment
• All sessions must be booked in advance.
• Payment details will be confirmed prior to the first session.
• Unless otherwise agreed, payment is due before or immediately after each session.
• Block bookings or pre-paid packages must be paid in full before the first session.
• Invoices or receipts are available upon request.

3. Attendance, Cancellations, and Rescheduling
We understand that plans can change, and we aim to be flexible within reason.
• Cancellations with more than 24 hours’ notice — session can be rescheduled or refunded in full.
• Cancellations or partial attendance with less than 24 hours’ notice — the full session fee may apply.
• Partial attendance (arriving late or leaving early) must be agreed in advance. No refund or extension will be provided if you arrive late or leave early without notice.
• Missed sessions without prior communication are non-refundable.
• If Science Steps must cancel a session, as much notice as possible will be given and an alternative time or refund will be offered.

4. Refund Policy
Refunds are handled fairly and depend on the circumstances:
• Refunds are available according to the cancellation terms above.
• Refunds will not be issued for sessions affected by poor behaviour, repeated lateness, or failure to engage respectfully.
• Refunds may be considered for genuine extenuating circumstances (e.g., illness, family emergencies, power or internet failures).
• Refunds are not available for completed sessions.
• Refunds will be processed using the same payment method originally used.
5. Session Locations
• In-person sessions may be held at an agreed safe and suitable location (e.g., the client’s home, library, or another public educational space).
• The learning environment must be quiet, safe, and free from unnecessary distractions.
• For online sessions, learners must ensure a stable internet connection and a focused environment.
• Science Steps reserves the right to end or reschedule a session if the environment is unsuitable for effective teaching or safety.

6. Young Learners and Parental Presence
• A parent or responsible adult must be present in the home during any in-person session with children under 18.
• For younger learners, parents or guardians are encouraged to sit in or remain nearby during lessons.
• Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring punctual attendance and respectful behaviour.

7. Learning Needs and Safety
To provide effective and safe tutoring, clients (or parents/guardians) must:
• Disclose any learning needs, medical conditions, or circumstances that may affect a learner’s ability to focus or participate safely.
• Keep Science Steps informed of any changes that may impact learning or behaviour.
• This information helps tailor sessions appropriately and enables us to modify teaching approaches to best support each learner while keeping everyone safe.
All information shared will be handled sensitively and in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

8. Session Conduct
• Sessions are designed to be positive, inclusive, and professional learning environments.
• All participants are expected to behave respectfully.
• Recording of sessions (audio, video, or screen) is not permitted without prior written consent.
• Science Steps reserves the right to end a session early if behaviour or circumstances make continuation unsafe or inappropriate.
• Refunds for such sessions will not be issued unless circumstances are outside the learner’s control (e.g., unexpected power loss or technical failure).

9. Educational Disclaimer
Science Steps provides personalised tutoring, mentoring, and career guidance to help learners develop skills, confidence, and academic understanding.
While every effort is made to support improvement, specific outcomes, grades, or career results cannot be guaranteed, as these depend on factors beyond the tutor’s control — such as:
• Individual effort and consistency
• Examination or marking standards
• University admissions competitiveness or applicant pool
• Job market conditions
Science Steps provides guidance and tools to help maximise success, but final results may vary.

10. Data Protection and Privacy
Personal information shared via email, phone, or during sessions is handled in line with our Privacy Policy and UK GDPR.
Information is used solely for providing agreed educational and career support services.

11. Safeguarding
Science Steps holds an Enhanced DBS certificate and safeguarding training.
All sessions are conducted with professionalism and care to ensure a safe and supportive environment for every learner.

12. Liability
Science Steps is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including but not limited to missed deadlines, exam results, admissions outcomes, or technical issues affecting online sessions.

13. Changes to These Terms
These Terms & Conditions may be updated periodically to reflect changes in services or legal requirements.
